The auto parts manufacturing project established by the world’s top 500 Korean POSCO investment was completed on April 28, 2011 in the Yantai Development Zone in Shandong. At this point, seven of the world's top 500 auto companies joined the Yantai Development Zone automobile industry. Once a Yantai Development Zone with salt and alkali beaches, it turned perfectly into a modern automobile city.
Pohang (Yantai) Auto Parts Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was established in March 2010. It has a total investment of US$39 million and an annual production capacity of 170,000 tons. It specializes in high-end automotive steel sheet cutting and distribution, and is used in Dongyue Auto , Jinan Heavy Duty Truck and other provinces. The auto vehicle manufacturing companies and Mitsui Fujitsu and Asia Pacific parts and components companies provide processing and distribution services. The project is planned to be constructed in three phases, with an estimated annual sales of over 150 million U.S. dollars.
Investors from all over the country extend the automotive industry chain in Yantai Development Zone. First, Japan Denso and Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan, Toyota looms entered Yantai and launched the Shougang Denso car air-conditioning project. Then, two of the world's top 500 companies, General Motors Group and SAIC Motor Corporation, established Shanghai GM Dongyue Automobile Co., Ltd. in Yantai, becoming the largest production base outside Shanghai SAIC Motor and the national supply base for Chevrolet sedan. Around Dongyue Automobile, only the Development Zone has settled on 30 supporting projects, including three projects invested by the United States Visteon, Japan's Toyota, and Japan Mitsui 3 world top 500, and the newly signed POSCO Steel.
After years of construction and development, Yantai has become an important automobile industry base in the country. It is reported that the current automobile industry cluster in Yantai covers key components such as the body, engine, air conditioners, and seats. The Shanghai General Motors powertrain covers the needs of the matching of economical cars and mid-size cars, with car locks and car air conditioners. Vehicles and accessories, such as interior trims, have become mainstream models in China. According to statistics from Dongyue Automobile, there are 46 first-tier component suppliers in the Shandong region, including 36 in Yantai. The construction of the Pohang Steel Works in Yantai will surely further improve local auto parts support capabilities and advance Yantai’s economical car base construction.
