Sony expects to increase its image sensor production capacity by 50%

It is expected that Sony will increase the monthly production capacity of image sensors to 50,000 by the end of March 2012. On Monday, Sony announced that it will increase its image sensor production capacity by 50% in the next two to three years starting next spring.

The new expansion plans mean that by March 2014 or March 2015, the company's monthly production capacity of image sensors will further reach 75,000. These capacities include CCD and CMOS sensors. While improving the production capacity of the Nagasaki technology center, Sony also plans to use existing chip makers to increase production without further large-scale investment. On Monday, Sony held the production ceremony for the fourth CMOS sensor production line at Nagasaki Plant.

Affected by floods in Thailand, leading to rising raw materials, Sony has also been affected to a certain extent. Since entering the fiscal year in April, Sony's share price has fallen by nearly 50%, but on Monday, Sony's share price rose by 1.4% on Monday. The expansion plan for image sensor productivity is very impressive.
