Jeff Rudolph arrived at the second-alarm fire in Waukegan yesterday and captured several photos. The incident occurred on November 5th, 2010, at 2:00 PM, at 5666 W. Victor Lane, located in the far southwest corner of the district. The area is not equipped with hydrants, so crews had to rely on water tenders for supply. The fire was in an attached garage of a single-story frame home.
Knollwood Engine Company E-44 was used to draft water from the tenders that arrived on scene. Jeff shared images of the response, showing the efforts made by local and mutual aid units.
The first photo shows Waukegan Engine 2-11, a 1991 E-One Cyclone 1500/750, which had a pre-connected line at the fire. This unit was one of the first to arrive and immediately began operations.
Another image captures a Grayslake Fire Department Mack/Darley/Stuart 1000/4000 tender, which was part of the mutual aid response into Waukegan. These tenders played a critical role in supplying water to the fire scene.
Lastly, a third photo features a Pierce Arrow tanker from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. This unit traveled the farthest distance among all the mutual aid companies. Built on an Arrow chassis, Tender 5613 was another key player in supporting the firefighting efforts.
The event highlighted the importance of cooperation between departments, especially in areas without hydrant access. Jeff's photos provide a great visual record of the response and the dedication of the firefighters involved.
