Kunliulong DC project completed a number of key technical breakthroughs

From December 17th to 18th, the South Network Research Institute organized a 2018 annual work summary meeting for the Wudongde Power Station to send electricity to Guangdong Guangxi UHV multi-terminal DC demonstration project (referred to as “Kunliulong DC Project”). At the meeting, the eight technical research groups reported on the progress of the annual research, the results and the plan for next year. At present, the South Network Research Institute has basically completed the research on Kunlunlong DC engineering system research and complete set design, and completed a number of key technical breakthroughs, about one year ahead of schedule.

The eight technical research teams have been working for more than five months to complete a number of technical breakthroughs in key equipment, to overcome the redundant topology design of the full-bridge half-bridge hybrid topology of the straight-line converter valve, and the power module bypass of the flexible converter valve. A variety of core technologies such as hybrid multi-end control and protection core strategy. Kunlun Long DC Project integrates UHV multi-terminal DC, UHV large capacity soft straight, UHV hybrid DC, UHV soft straight for long-distance overhead lines and other complex and cutting-edge grid technologies, representing the top level of China's power . In the next step, Nanwang Research Institute will firmly assume technical responsibility, continue to carry out technical research, solve key technical problems of UHV hybrid multi-end system, and provide strong technical support for the project.

“Key Technology Research and Engineering Demonstration Application of High Voltage and Large Capacity Flexible HVDC Transmission” is the 2018 national key R&D plan project led by Nanfang Research Institute. A number of technical research results of the project have been fully applied in the Kunliulong DC project. The Kunlulong DC engineering converter valve and control and protection innovation platform currently under construction will fully support the project's control and protection design, strategy research, software implementation and verification work, and will be unlocked by the end of this year.
