Recently, the construction of the main project of seawater desalination project of Qingdao Baifa, the largest seawater desalination project in China, was fully started. It is expected to be completed and trial run by the end of 2011 and will be officially put into use in June 2012. The project will have a total investment of approximately 108 million euros. Upon completion, it will produce 100,000 tons of fresh water per day. According to the designed desalination capacity, more than 36 million tons of fresh water can be saved each year.
