On July 20, 2012, Scania, a Swedish commercial vehicle manufacturer, announced its financial data for the first half of 2012. Both its production and sales volume and operating profit declined.
In the first half of 2012, Scania's operating profit was 4.257 billion kroner (about 611 million U.S. dollars), which was a 36% year-on-year decrease from the 6.652 billion kronor (about 955 million U.S. dollars) in 2011. Net operating profit was 3.249 billion kronor (about 466 million U.S. dollars), which was a 34% drop from 2011. The operating profit of the automotive business was 3.944 billion kronor (about 566 million U.S. dollars), a 39% year-on-year decrease from the 6.414 billion kronor (about 920 million U.S. dollars) in 2011.
In the first half of 2012, Scania's net sales were 39.338 billion kronor (about 5.645 billion U.S. dollars), a year-on-year drop of 10% from 47.665 billion kronor (about 6.266 billion U.S. dollars) in 2011. The total shipment volume was 32,032 vehicles, which was a 21% drop from 2011; the total sales volume was 35,395 units, a decrease of 16% year-on-year in 2011.
According to the market:
The sales of Scania's trucks were 32,271 units, a 15% year-on-year drop in 2011, and truck shipments were 29,196 units, which was a 20% drop from 2011;
Scania's passenger car sales were 3,124 units, which was a 27% drop from 2011 and passenger car shipments were 2,836 units, which was a 24% drop from 2011.
Scania's engine sales were 4,008, an increase of 4% year-over-year in 2011, and engine shipments were 3,796, an increase of 22% year-on-year in 2011.
