Dana China Technology Center starts construction in Wuxi, serving commercial and off-highway vehicles


On May 10, 2011, Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE: DAN) officially broke ground on its technical center in Wuxi, Jiangsu, China.

Dana's new technology center will provide research, design, development and testing of off-highway wheel axles, driveshafts and gearboxes; commercial vehicle driveshafts; light axles and driveshafts; and electric vehicle battery coolers and other sealing and thermal products. Advanced product and application engineering, the center is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2011.

Aziz Aghili, president of Dana Asia Pacific, stated that as Dana celebrates its 20 years of successful operation in China, it is pleased that the 14th Global Technology Center has broken ground. Dana has already achieved great success in China, and it is firmly believed that Dana’s market for off-highway, commercial vehicle and light vehicle in China is still promising.

China is the world’s largest heavy truck producer. In addition, China has become the world's largest automotive market in 2009, and by 2014, China's light vehicle production will account for more than 25% of global production.

To support this tremendous growth, Dana China Technology Center will become a new member of Dana's global R&D center network. The new center will occupy an area of ​​130,000 square feet (12,000 square meters) and employ nearly 200 employees.

The Dana Wuxi Technology Center will be adjacent to the factory of Dana Wuxi Technologies Company, Ltd. The plant was established in 2003 and is responsible for the assembly of axles, driveshafts and gearboxes, and thermal products for off-highway vehicles.

Dana Technology and Quality Director George Constand said: Investing in this advanced testing laboratory and production area in China enables us to continue to bring innovative technologies to the global market. The center will support our global product development activities and enable Dana to continue to specialize. Design products for customers and consumers in the Asia Pacific region.

Dana began manufacturing activities in China in 1991. Currently, Dana has interests in seven Chinese operations and serves the commercial and off-highway markets.
