Autodesk Forma: Our vision for a connected AECO industry

At Autodesk, we’ve always been committed to helping our customers adapt to technological shifts. Our history is filled with innovations that have redefined industries, starting with AutoCAD back in 1982, which transformed the way designs moved from paper to computers. Fast forward to 2002, and we introduced Revit, revolutionizing the field with building information modeling (BIM) and model-based design. These advancements were just the beginning. A few years ago, we further enriched BIM by connecting architects and engineers to a shared Revit model in the cloud via the Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC). This allowed everyone involved to collaborate seamlessly on shared data, fostering unprecedented teamwork and efficiency. However, the architecture, engineering, construction, and operations (AECO) sector remains in constant flux. Urban expansion is fueling demand, complex projects are pushing deadlines and budgets to their limits, and talent shortages are stretching already-stretched teams thin. These challenges aren't fading anytime soon, and BIM as we currently know it needs to evolve to meet these growing demands. One of the major hurdles we face is the loss of valuable data during the various stages of a project—planning, design, construction, and operation. Too often, critical information gets lost or recreated, leading to inefficiencies and delays. That's why we believe that connected data holds the key to overcoming these obstacles. To achieve this, we need to unlock the full potential of your data. By making it easier to transfer data between stakeholders, linking workflows, building intelligent processes atop data, maintaining a single source of truth in the cloud, and delivering solutions that customers like Arco are demanding, we can create a more streamlined and effective process. Richard Hogan, Project Lead and Architect at ARCO Architecture Company, notes, "The architect's workflow has evolved over centuries. Now we're stepping into a data-rich world where we must refine our approach to construct better-performing, more sustainable buildings that integrate seamlessly into our urban landscapes." On May 8th, we're launching the first set of capabilities for Autodesk Forma, our industry cloud designed specifically for AECO. Forma aims to redefine BIM by integrating advanced technologies to connect data, teams, and workflows, enabling more collaborative and concurrent ways of working. I’m thrilled to announce that our initial Forma offering is almost ready. On May 8th, we'll embark on a multi-year journey as we introduce the first batch of capabilities with Autodesk Forma. This marks the beginning of an exciting transformation in the way we approach architectural design and construction. We're not only enhancing Revit but also building on its foundation. The new features in Revit 2024 are essential for today's work, setting the stage for the upcoming launch of Forma and its capabilities next month. The "huge promise" of a cloud-connected industry lies in making smarter decisions early in projects. By leveraging AI, machine learning, and IoT, we can accelerate processes, minimize errors, and preemptively address issues before they arise. Our customers, like Hogan at Arco, recognize this as a significant cultural shift within the profession, but they agree the benefits of embracing data and the cloud are undeniable. I invite you to join us on May 8th for a special event unveiling the first set of Forma capabilities. Let’s gather with industry leaders to explore how data will shape the future of architectural practices.
