Northlake active member death (more)

I was there yesterday at the funeral for Lieutenant Herbert Milnes Jr., of the Northlake Fire Department. It was a somber day, filled with respect and remembrance for a man who dedicated so much of his life to serving others. The turnout was incredible—so many people came out to pay their respects, including Tim Olk, who captured some powerful images. The first photo shows the solemn procession as it began. You can see the honor guard standing tall, their presence a testament to the deep respect felt by all in attendance. Tim’s second shot highlights the casket, draped in the American flag, surrounded by floral tributes that spoke volumes about the love and admiration for Lieutenant Milnes. In another image, you’ll notice the firefighters standing together, shoulder to shoulder, paying tribute to one of their own. It was moving to see how united they were in their grief and pride. Tim also caught a moment during the eulogy, where the speaker shared stories of Lieutenant Milnes’ dedication and courage, bringing tears to many eyes. One photo really stood out to me—it was taken from the back of the church, showing the entire congregation holding candles. It felt like a sea of light, symbolizing hope and resilience in the face of loss. There was also a picture of the fire truck carrying the lieutenant’s final ride, adorned with flowers and memorials left by those who wanted to honor him personally. As I walked away, I couldn’t help but reflect on how Lieutenant Milnes’ legacy will live on through everyone he touched. These photos by Tim Olk truly capture the depth of emotion and the community spirit that were present that day. They’re more than just images—they’re a tribute to a life well-lived and deeply cherished.
