Various domestic automobile exporters bravely fight


In the first half of this year, the overseas market has become a hotly contested place for major domestic auto makers. And look at how the major export manufacturers move -

Chery: In the first half of the year, Chery’s total exports of 13,548 units accounted for 67.7% of China’s exports of cars in the first half of the year, and continued to maintain its leading position in car exports. This year's production and sales plan will be 300,000, and exports will account for 25%. At present, Chery has signed contracts with 23 countries around the world to complete vehicle or CKD export contracts. There are nearly 40 overseas distributors, and it is currently the largest number of overseas outlets with independent brands.

Geely: The export volume of cars ranked second, with 6 models exporting 3,460 units in the first half of the year, an increase of 5.6% year-on-year. In 2006, it plans to export about 10,000 units to overseas markets, covering 29 countries and regions in the Middle East, North Africa and Central and South America, including all its models. In January 2006, Geely became the first Chinese automaker to participate in the North American Detroit Auto Show.

Great Wall: Great Wall Motors in Baoding, Hebei, is the export champion of pickup trucks. Last year, about 19,000 vehicles were exported, which was 3 times of its 2004 export volume. Since the beginning of this year, Great Wall Motor has exported 16,000 vehicles and established the goal of achieving 40,000 exports throughout the year. In 2008, it plans to allow overseas sales and domestic sales to reach 100,000 vehicles.

Chang'an: In the first half of this year, Changan Automobile exported 10,000 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 60%. By 2010, Changan Automobile will produce and sell 1.5 million vehicles, of which overseas sales will reach 25% to 30%.

Jiangling: In 2005, Jiangling Motors exported the top 10 cars. Jiangling has exported more than 700 vehicles to Africa this year. Jiangling Landwind will participate in the Paris Motor Show in September this year and start selling in France.

Hua Pu: In 2006, Shanghai Huapu signed a car export agreement with more than five digits in one fell swoop, and more than 10,000 cars will be sold overseas, making it one of the first legions of auto exports. The 2000 Warpe sedan was exported to Libya on July 3, setting a record for an export volume of cars.

Beiqi Foton: On April 21st, the Ministry of Transport of Thailand signed a purchase agreement for 3,000 Futian Euro V buses with Foton Motor, once again refreshing the domestic passenger car export record with a total value of RMB 2 billion. Fukuda's goal is that by 2008, 30% of its products will be exported.

China National Heavy Duty Truck: In the first six months of this year, China National Heavy Duty Truck achieved 4,336 vehicles exports, and the export earned 125 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 170% year-on-year. New products with own brands account for 90% of the total number of export vehicles.

Hafei: In the first half of the year, Hafei Motors signed a total of more than 20,000 vehicles and exported more than 10,000 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 195%, which is the highest level in history. It is expected that this year's exports will exceed 30,000 vehicles. At present, Hafei Motor has exported its entire department to more than 40 countries and regions including the Middle East, North Africa, South America and Asia.

Jianghuai: JAC has ranked first in domestic truck export for six consecutive years, and its total export volume has been on an upward trend. In the first half of the year, Jianghuai successfully entered the European market. From January to May, it exported a total of more than 3,000 auto products. The export delivery value was 49 million yuan, of which exports earned 13.85 million US dollars. It is estimated that 10,000 vehicles of various types will be exported throughout the year, with an export delivery value of 500 million yuan.

Yutong: As the first brand of domestic passenger cars, Yutong Group exported 972 buses in the first half of the year, an increase of 112% year-on-year. In 2005, Yutong exported 1,098 actual customs declarations, amounting to nearly 80 million U.S. dollars, and signed a total of 2,400 passenger car export contracts, which has set a new record for domestic passenger car exports in terms of quantity and amount.

FAW: In the first half of the year, the export volume of FAW Xiali Automobile Co., Ltd., which ranked third in terms of passenger car sales, increased by nearly five times year-on-year, and a total of 1,499 vehicles were exported. On July 7, another 775 1.1-liter Xiali N3s were shipped to Algeria. In 2006, FAW Group will push sales of economical cars in Ukraine and intends to establish factories in Uzbekistan.

SAIC: In the first half of this year, SAIC earned 447 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 14.9% year-on-year. Shanghai GM’s LaCrosse sedan will enter the Taiwan market in batches with KD, and Le Ju sedan will be exported to Russia in bulk. Shanghai Huizhong’s heavy-duty trucks and Istana light buses will also be exported to overseas markets in bulk. For the first time, Shanghai Huizhong has received a large order of RM5 billion under the chassis system from General Motors. The Steam Turbine General Plant’s F15 transmission steam pin has also received large orders and will be exported to overseas markets in batches for several consecutive years.

Dongfeng: Dongfeng Motor has confirmed the target of exporting 5,000 vehicles this year. From January to May this year, it exported 8.455 million US dollars, an increase of 53.2% compared with the same period of last year. It achieved 1,122 Dongfeng light truck exports, an increase of 2.9% from the same period of last year. Export varieties have evolved from a handful of previous brands to a full range of branded exports.
