West Chicago had a special alarm go out at 923 Gates Street. The initial call reported a basement fire. When the fire companies arrived, they discovered that the fire had already spread to the basement area and had made its way up through a plumbing wall into the dormer on the second floor. It took the firefighters around 30 minutes to get the situation under control, using four handlines to do so.
