LAS VEGAS – (BUSINESS WIRE) – At its prestigious annual event, Autodesk University, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), introduced Autodesk BIM 360 Docs, a comprehensive, cloud-based tool designed specifically for the construction sector. This innovative service offers a virtual workspace where teams can effortlessly create, access, update, mark up, and share both 2D and 3D project documents, blueprints, and models.
The construction industry often faces significant challenges, such as a 25% rate of rework and approximately 10% material wastage, as highlighted in the 2013 industry report titled "Making the Grade" by Autodesk. A major contributor to these inefficiencies is the complex process of handling hundreds to thousands of project documents. Currently, the construction sector grapples with a convoluted network of various document management providers, leading to notable inefficiencies and risks on job sites.
Previously known as Project Alexandria, Autodesk BIM 360 Docs aims to streamline operations, saving time, reducing risks, and minimizing errors in construction projects. It ensures that every team member works with the most current versions of documents and plans.

Autodesk BIM 360 Docs fosters collaboration among construction project teams by providing real-time access to construction documents throughout the project's lifecycle. Key planned features include:
- Seamless integration between 3D and 2D experiences, enabling users to view models in both 2D and 3D formats on the same page.
- Permission-based access control and approval workflows to manage document updates and releases, ensuring teams work with the latest information.
- High-speed viewing of large PDF design documents, optimized for Apple iOS devices.
- Automated organization of original and updated construction documents into sets, featuring advanced OCR technology for precise title block recognition.
Throughout the product's development, industry leaders from designers and general contractors to engineers and owners/operators have actively tested and provided feedback to the Autodesk BIM 360 team.

Autodesk is now accepting reservations for a limited release and free preview version of Autodesk BIM 360 Docs at www.bim360.com/docs. The product is expected to launch in early 2016. In addition to the free, limited version of BIM 360 Docs, Autodesk will offer subscription options for enhanced capabilities tailored to meet the more advanced needs of construction firms. Initially, the product will be available in English only.
