LAS VEGAS – (BUSINESS WIRE) – At its highly anticipated annual user conference, Autodesk University, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK), announced the launch of Autodesk BIM 360 Docs. This innovative, cloud-based service is specifically designed for the construction sector, providing a seamless virtual workspace where teams can create, access, update, annotate, and share both 2D and 3D project documents, plans, and models.
Construction rework accounts for up to 25% of total work, while around 10% of materials end up being wasted, according to Autodesk's 2013 industry report, "Making the Grade." A significant portion of this inefficiency stems from the cumbersome process of handling hundreds to thousands of project documents manually. Currently, the construction industry grapples with a complex array of document management solutions from various providers, leading to inefficiencies and heightened risks on job sites.
Previously known as Project Alexandria, Autodesk BIM 360 Docs aims to streamline workflows, minimize errors, and reduce costs in construction projects. It ensures that all team members are consistently working with the latest versions of documents and plans.

Autodesk BIM 360 Docs fosters collaboration among construction project teams by providing real-time, lifecycle access to critical construction documents. Key features planned for the platform include:
- An integrated 2D and 3D experience, enabling users to seamlessly switch between 2D and 3D visualizations of the same model on the same interface.
- Permission-based access control and approval processes to prevent outdated information from being used.
- Ultra-fast viewing of large-format PDF design documents, optimized for Apple iOS devices.
- Automated organization of original and updated construction documents into organized sets, featuring advanced OCR technology for precise title block recognition.
Throughout the development phase, Autodesk collaborated closely with industry leaders ranging from designers and general contractors to engineers and facility operators, incorporating valuable feedback to refine the product.

Autodesk is currently accepting reservations for a limited release and free preview version of BIM 360 Docs at www.bim360.com/docs. The product is expected to hit the market in early 2016. In addition to the free, limited version, Autodesk will offer subscription options for enhanced capabilities tailored to the needs of larger construction firms. Initially, the product will only be available in English.
