The Future of Work is Flexible: Introducing Autodesk’s Flexible Workplace

Over the past year and a half, the world has undergone a dramatic shift due to the global outbreak of COVID-19, disrupting nearly every aspect of life, including work and personal routines. At Autodesk, we’ve navigated through this period with resilience and determination, ensuring our employees, customers, and partners adapted to the evolving landscape while staying connected and supported. I am incredibly proud of how Autodesk has risen to the challenge during such unprecedented times. From implementing robust digital solutions to fostering remote learning environments, we’ve ensured continuity and support for our teams and industries. Additionally, we’ve introduced thoughtful measures like redesigned office spaces that prioritize health and safety, allowing us to focus on long-term sustainability and growth. While the pandemic isn’t over yet, there’s hope on the horizon thanks to vaccination efforts worldwide. As societies heal, it’s clear that the post-pandemic world will demand new ways of working. This realization shaped our vision for the future of our workplace, leading to the creation of our new Flexible Workplace model. Our goal with this initiative is simple yet profound: to empower our employees to thrive by offering them choices about where and how they work, all while maintaining the dynamism and innovation that drive our business forward. The new model reflects our commitment to adaptability, inclusivity, and the well-being of our global workforce. Under the Flexible Workplace framework, employees will fall into one of three categories, each designed to meet diverse needs while balancing individual preferences with organizational requirements: 1. **Office-Based Employees** will spend most of their time at an Autodesk office but retain the option to work remotely up to 20% of the time. Certain roles, such as receptionists and security personnel, will remain office-centric due to job necessity. 2. **Hybrid Employees** will divide their workweek between home and nearby Autodesk offices. Most of our workforce will fit into this group, utilizing shared workspaces when necessary without having permanent desk assignments. 3. **Home-Based Employees** typically reside too far from any office to commute regularly and will operate primarily from their home offices. We intend to implement this program gradually, office by office, adhering to local regulations, public health metrics, and vaccination progress. Although some of our Asia-Pacific locations have reopened, others, especially in the U.S., will follow suit later this summer. Regardless of timing, transitions will occur in stages to ensure safety and organization for everyone involved. Beyond logistics, our commitment goes beyond the details of the policy. We aim to create an inclusive environment that supports all employees equally, leveraging our existing culture as a foundation for seamless collaboration—both virtually and physically. Above all, we remain steadfast in safeguarding the health and happiness of our global family. Looking back, the pandemic has underscored the value of collaboration and adaptability. Though the road ahead remains uncertain, we firmly believe that putting people first will enable everyone to adjust, grow, and succeed as we continue helping our customers embrace new possibilities.
