Non-Magnetic High Strength Drill Collar
Non-magnetic drill collars are manufactured from low-carbon, high-chromium, and manganese alloy steel. They undergo strict chemical composition control and special forging processes to ensure superior mechanical properties. These collars exhibit low magnetic permeability, excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion cracking, and high abrasion resistance. They are commonly used in directional drilling applications alongside MWD (Measurement While Drilling) and LWD (Logging While Drilling) systems. This allows for accurate magnetic measurements of well trajectories using instruments located within the drill string.
The non-magnetic nature of these collars ensures that the magnetic measuring devices (MWD) operate without interference from the surrounding drill pipe or bottom hole assembly (BHA). This isolation is critical for obtaining reliable data on the Earth's magnetic field, which is essential for precise wellbore navigation and orientation during drilling operations.
