Non-Magnetic High-Strength Drill Collar
Non-magnetic drill collars are manufactured from low-carbon, high-chromium, and manganese alloy steel, carefully refined through precise chemical composition control and special forging processes. These collars offer excellent mechanical strength, minimal magnetic permeability, and superior resistance to intergranular corrosion cracking as well as abrasion. They are commonly used in directional drilling applications alongside MWD (Measurement While Drilling) and LWD (Logging While Drilling) systems. This allows for accurate magnetic measurements of well trajectories using instruments located within the drill string.
The non-magnetic design ensures that the magnetic measuring devices (MWD) operate without interference from the magnetic fields generated by the bottom hole assembly (BHA) or other steel components in the drill pipe. As a result, these collars enable reliable data collection, making them essential for modern drilling operations where precision is critical.
