The Wauconda Fire Department, part of MABAS Division 4, responded to a single-family home fire shortly after 1 PM today at 1116 Madison Avenue. Upon arrival, crews discovered heavy fire in the garage that had already spread into the main house and attic. Recognizing the severity, they escalated the response to a MABAS Box Alarm, calling for mutual aid from multiple departments across the region. Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time of the fire. While the garage suffered significant damage, including destruction of a vehicle parked inside, the main house remained largely intact, with damage limited to the area directly behind the two-story garage.
Fire companies from Lake Zurich, Lake Villa, Nunda, Barrington, Round Lake, Mundelein, Countryside, and Long Grove all arrived to assist. Larry Shapiro, a local photographer, captured the scene but arrived after the fire had been extinguished. Below are several images from the incident.

Interestingly, there was no second floor above the garage, despite the large window visible in this Google Maps image. The structure was built with lightweight roof trusses, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
