Yanshan Petrochemical recently announced that two of its newly developed special materials—HDPE 6600B for hollow applications and BOPS PS688B for biaxially oriented polystyrene—have successfully passed expert evaluation. The assessment confirmed that both products meet advanced domestic standards, significantly enhancing the company's synthetic resin product lineup and delivering strong economic returns. HDPE 6600B is designed for manufacturing small hollow packaging items such as lubricant drums, beverage bottles, cosmetic containers, medicine bottles, and food packaging. It has been widely used in production lines for Great Wall Lubricants, unified lubricants, antifreeze, and other consumer goods. On the other hand, BOPS PS688B is tailored for biaxially stretched polystyrene sheet manufacturers, primarily used in food packaging. Its excellent processing performance, mechanical properties, and optical transparency make it highly suitable for high-quality packaging applications. With increasing demands in the packaging industry and advancements in processing technologies, the need for high-performance resins has grown. Previously, many Chinese companies relied on imported materials. To address this, Yanshan Petrochemical established a dedicated team to focus on R&D of these two materials. After two years of research, development, and technical support, HDPE 6600B was successfully industrialized and stabilized at Yanshan’s 140,000-ton/year low-pressure polyethylene plant. Meanwhile, BOPS PS688B, which entered mass production in August 2006, has seen cumulative sales exceeding 13,000 tons. It has gained widespread recognition from major biaxially oriented polystyrene sheet producers in China. With a styrene monomer content below 0.04%, it meets strict hygiene standards for food packaging, ensuring safety and quality. These achievements highlight Yanshan Petrochemical’s growing innovation capability and its important role in the domestic chemical industry.
