Federal-Mogul develops advanced high-temperature gasket technology

Federal-Mogul announced on November 17, 2010 that it has developed advanced "High Temperature Alloy (HTA)" materials that help ensure reliability even in the most demanding power systems where extreme high temperatures and dynamic mechanical loads fluctuate. Federal-Mogul overcomes high-temperature sealing problems by developing a series of HTA sealing materials. Even at higher temperatures, HTA materials have higher microhardness, creep resistance, and dynamic seal performance than the industry-standard "301" stainless steel. The latter will lose its mechanical strength and rupture or other changes when the temperature exceeds 427°C, losing its sealing ability. For a wide range of demanding applications including turbochargers, mixing pipes, exhaust pipes, and EGR, HTA gaskets have corresponding material specifications that match their thermal and mechanical requirements.
